Story

This set of needle threaders features three traditional Japanese textiles: Awa Shijira-Ori, Bingo Fushi-Ori, and Matsusaka-Momen.

Each textile has its own distinctive pattern and depth of color, allowing you to choose one to suit your project or mood for the day. The fan-shaped design is carefully crafted for a comfortable grip.

Awa Shijira-Ori (Tokushima)
Awa Shijira-Ori is a distinctive cotton textile known for its unique crinkled texture, called shibo. Soft to the touch and pleasantly breathable, it has a cool, refreshing feel.

Bingo Fushi-Ori (Hiroshima)
Bingo Fushi-Ori is a new textile brand derived from Bingo Kasuri, a traditional Japanese textile. The yarn itself contains soft, raised neps, giving the machine-woven fabric a warm, rustic texture reminiscent of handwoven cloth.

Matsuzaka-Momen (Mie)
Matsuzaka-Momen originated in Matsuzaka, one of Japan's leading centers of cotton spinning, where indigo dyeing also flourished. It is said to have developed after the area was required to offer cotton textiles to Ise Jingu. Today, it is still made using yarn dyed with natural indigo, just as it was in the past.

Awa Shijira-ori features large-scale patterns, so the colors and patterns may vary depending on where the fabric is cut.

Producing Regions

Tokushima, Hiroshima, Mie

Producers

Awa Shijira-Ori | Nagao Textile Co., Ltd. / Tokushima

Since its founding in 1897, Nagao Textile Co., Ltd. has preserved the traditional techniques of Awa Shijira-ori and Awa indigo dyeing in the region. Managing all processes in-house, from dyeing to weaving and finishing, the company creates designs that harmonize with modern lifestyles and sensibilities.

Nagao Textile also focuses on sustainable manufacturing that minimizes its environmental impact, using yarns made primarily from natural materials and production processes that respect the natural environment of Tokushima, its home region.

Bingo Fushi-Ori, Matsuzaka-Momen | Bansyo limited company. / Tokushima

Bansyo offers traditional Japanese textiles sourced primarily from western Japan, as well as products crafted from these fabrics. The previous generation was committed to direct, face-to-face sales, personally delivering beautiful, time-honored fabrics to people. Following in those footsteps, Bansyo now works to preserve the wonderful regional textiles that are gradually declining with the changing times by selling fabrics and developing them into distinctive brands.
