Meet Cohana’s new Solid Wood Seam Ripper and Awl, each carved from a single piece of fine hardwood.

These two essential tools for handcrafting are crafted from two beautiful, prized woods: Sumi Black in striped ebony, a rich and substantial hardwood of high quality, and Honey Beige in Japanese birch, a beautiful wood with a warm, deep-toned grain and a soft, delicate texture.

Each hexagonal handle is carefully finished by a traditional craftsperson certified by Kagawa Prefecture, with expertise in ranma carving, a traditional form of decorative wood carving. The refined shape combines beautiful geometric lines with a soft, comfortable feel in the hand.

Striped Ebony

A beautiful, prized hardwood with distinctive grain patterns that range from deep black to soft peachy brown. One of the most highly regarded varieties of karaki (fine imported hardwoods), it has long been valued for fine furniture, crafts, musical instruments, and other works of art.

Japanese birch
A beautiful wood with a soft, delicate texture and a subtle blush of pale cherry pink. Among the many varieties of birch, it is prized for its exceptional beauty and graceful appearance. 

The clean, hexagonal shape features beautiful geometric edges. While the handle has distinct corners, it feels surprisingly gentle in the hand, naturally conforming to your fingers.
