The Difference Between the Saku and Mau Sets
As the Saku and Mau sets include some items in common, you may be wondering which one to choose. Here, we introduce the distinctive features of each set to help you decide.
For those who would like a fully coordinated collection of tools—the Saku Set is recommended.
Inspired by the theme of ume (plum blossoms), this is a richly curated, all-inclusive set. Along with a chic pair of small scissors finished in deep Tamenuri lacquer and an elegant plum-patterned accessory pouch, the Saku Set includes several special tools available only in this collection.
Highlights
Among the 11 items in the set, three special pieces coordinate beautifully with the pouch: Sewing Pin Set Housed in a Small Box Ume, Sewing Needle Set Ume, and a Mizuhiki Threader tied in a traditional plum-knot design. Perfect for those who would like to enjoy a beautifully unified look—like plum blossoms in full bloom the moment you lay everything out on your desk—or for anyone wishing to refresh their sewing tools all at once.
For those who would like to brighten their workspace with cheerful color—the Mau Set is recommended.
Inspired by the lively arare motif, this set offers a modern and lighthearted feel. At its heart is a pair of small scissors in the vivid, limited-edition color Ginshu, paired with a playful arare-motif accessory pouch. It’s a combination designed to lift your spirits each time you see it.
Highlights
This set brings together carefully selected essential tools in bright, uplifting colors. Ginshu is a special shade of red that balances vibrancy with quiet elegance. Ideal for those looking to welcome spring with a fresh mindset, or for anyone searching for tools that add a subtle yet joyful accent to their desk.
We would like to introduce each of the carefully selected tools included in the Lucky Bag, one by one.
Small Scissors with Lacquered Handles
(Included in both the Saku and Mau Sets)

These Small Scissors, finished with traditional lacquer and gold makie, are loved for their charming, palm-sized form and their precise, reliable sharpness—carefully adjusted by skilled blade craftsmen in Seki.
The Small Scissors in the Saku Set are our classic Tamenuri, paired with a limited-edition gold leather case and tassel. A delicate plum-shaped charm adds a subtle seasonal accent.
The Small Scissors in the Mau Set are finished in a vivid yet elegant vermilion color, Ginshu, complemented by a natural, unbleached leather case and tassel. A piece designed to lift your spirits each time you use it.
This Ginshu is the same limited-edition color used for the Small Scissors included in the Lucky Bag 2025.
Chirimen & Canvas Accessory Pouch
(Included in both the Saku and Mau Sets)

This small accessory pouch combines vibrant chirimen with sturdy canvas fabric.
The pouch is highly versatile and can be used in two ways. When fastened with the inner snap buttons, it becomes a compact pouch that is easy to carry. When unbuttoned, it stands on its own as an open accessory pouch—perfect for keeping your tools close at hand while you work.
For the Saku Set, we chose a vivid ume (plum blossom) pattern in chirimen fabric.
Plum blossoms, which bloom early despite the cold, have long been regarded as auspicious flowers that herald the arrival of spring. This design carries the wish that, like blossoms opening one after another, joy and happiness will continue to bloom throughout the year.
For the Mau Set, the pouch features a colorful arare motif.
The lively design, with its small dots dancing lightly across the fabric, is inspired by the hope that many kinds of good fortune will come fluttering in with joyful momentum.
Sabae Magnifying Glass & Mirror Red
(Included in both the Saku and Mau Sets)

Sabae City in Fukui Prefecture is one of the world’s leading centers for eyewear manufacturing. Drawing on the refined techniques cultivated in this region, this magnifier is carefully crafted using the same materials found in eyeglass frames.

The high-quality lens is designed to be easy on the eyes, even when focusing on a single fine point, making it comfortable to use and easy to bring into focus. Ideal for checking the condition of a needle’s eye, counting stitches, or examining detailed patterns, it gently supports moments that require close attention and helps make long hours of handcrafting more comfortable.

One of two designs will be included.
This item also features a mirror, making it useful for everyday situations beyond your crafting time.
Kumiko Needle Minder–Eight-Pointed Star
(Included in both the Saku and Mau Sets)

This needle minder showcases the beauty of Kumiko, a traditional Japanese woodworking technique.
Even when your needle is at rest, this tool offers a subtle presence—one you notice quietly, without it ever calling attention to itself.
In Japan, the number eight has long been regarded as an auspicious symbol, representing growth and an ever-expanding future. The eight-pointed star—also known as eight-pointed star—embodies this meaning and has been used across cultures as a motif symbolizing hope, development, and positive progression. This design carries a forward-looking wish for openness and possibility in the days ahead.
Kokeshi Doll Pincushion Red
(Musubi Set)

The popular Kokeshi Doll Pincushion is presented in a special celebratory red color.
Kokeshi dolls are traditional good-luck charms in Japan, associated with wishes for vitality, abundant harvests, good health, and protection from harm. They have long been cherished as symbols of safeguarding children’s well-being and healthy growth.
This auspicious red color is available exclusively as part of the Lucky Bag.
Marukago Chidori Jelly
(Included in all three sets)

A moment to pause and relax between your crafting sessions—
We have included a soft, gently sweet Japanese confection to enjoy along the way.
The chidori motif, symbolizing safety and good fortune for the household, and the ichimatsu pattern, long regarded as auspicious for its unbroken continuity, are both reflected in these treats.
Savor these handcrafted jellies one by one, and enjoy a quiet, comforting moment of rest—together with your tools.
