Corisu the Little Helper

What is Corisu?
Corisu is a carved wooden squirrel that serves as a needle holder. The name combines "Co" (meaning "small" in Japanese) and "Risu" (meaning "squirrel"). We took the "Co" from our brand name Cohana to create "Corisu." The "Co" also carries the meaning of "together," reflecting our hope that you'll enjoy your sewing time with Corisu by your side.
Corisu is ready to catch your needle whenever you need!

Corisu features two built-in magnets: one in the hand to hold your needle securely, and one at the bottom to stand on metal surfaces. The bottom magnet also helps you pick up dropped needles!
Apple Core Spool Red

This carved wooden Apple Core Spool is made to look realistic while being designed to prevent rolling. Crafted by the same wood carving artisan as Corisu, together they create an adorable sewing set.

Echizen Food Paper Grapes
Echizen Food Paper Grape - Hand Sewing Needles (3 pcs) and Echizen Food Paper Grape - Needle Threader.
These two items are made with Echizen Food Paper Grapes.

The combination of grapes and squirrels has traditionally been used as an auspicious design in Japan. Grapes spread their vines and bear abundant fruit, while squirrels gather and store fruit and produce many offspring—symbolizing happiness, fertility, and prosperity. This motif has been used as a decorative element in paintings, ceramics, lacquerware, and many other art forms.
In Japanese, "grapes and squirrel" (budo ni risu) sounds similar to "to be disciplined in martial arts," making this design especially favored by samurai clans. Drawing inspiration from this traditional symbolism.

With these interesting background, we created these 2 items for the Corisu sewing set using Echizen Food Paper Grapes by Igarashi Seishi, a long-established studio that preserves the traditional culture of Echizen Washi paper.
Seki Mini Scissors Acorn

Seki Mini Scissors are adorned with a tassel made in three colors that give a fresh green impression and a small acorn charm. The white case evokes a field of chamomile flowers.
Tombo-dama Sewing Pin Chamomile

We chose white chamomile flowers over Tombo-dama Sewing Pins in various colors and patterns. Chamomile's flower language speaks of "enduring adversity," "strength through hardship," "friendship," and "reconciliation"—embodying quiet resilience and vitality.
Known for its healing properties as an herbal tea, chamomile brings relaxation and comfort. We gave Corisu these chamomile pins to bring peace and healing to your sewing moments.
Corisu's Forest Tin Box

Open it with a pop, and it's the world of Corisu's forest. Inside the tin, we've laid a green liner that evokes the image of a forest meadow.
When sewing, please use the tin as Corisu's waiting area. The built-in magnet's magnetic force keeps Corisu firmly on standby.
