Aitor Saraiba × Pokeori Workshop Report

Aitor Saraiba × Pokeori Workshops in Tokyo were held at the Cohana Nihonbashi Store for 2days of October 1st and 2nd.

We welcomed Textile Artist Aitor Saraiba from Spain to share the experience of making a traditional Spanish amulet Scapular with a Pokeori.

Welcome to Cohana with a Big Smile, Aitor!

At the venue of special Pokeori collaboration with Aitor Saraiba, customers were able to choose 3 colors of special yarn made by Aitor and some little charms.

These special yarns are made in his home country of Spain. He raises his own sheep on a farm, shears their wool, turns it into yarn and dyes in natural dyes to bring this special yarn to life.

Cuteness overloaded!

Everyone smiles with the world of Aitor.

We can see Pokeori made fabrics in some of his works.

Before the workshop began, Aitor talked about Spain and the importance of “handwork,” “sheep,” and “indigo” for his works.

By being exposed to the “value” that Aitor sees, we became a little more aware of things and concepts that we tend to get caught up in our daily lives and that may not really be necessary.

He has a Life Style Philosophy that goes beyond fashion in all of his creations, and his artistic activities as well as his way of life. His stories were very interesting and fascinating to us.

Aitor said with a Pokeori in his hand.
”Weaving is universal. The act of weaving has been a part of human life since ancient times.

Weaving skill and experience are among the things that made us human in primitive times. The memory of weaving is inside us. Enjoy “Pokeori” as a form of “communication” that brings you in touch with something primitive inside you.

Enjoy communicating with the materials you encounter today. If you are a first-timer, don't be afraid to make mistakes. There is no such thing as a mistake, really!

The part you think is a mistake is the taste of your creation.
You are here to be free.
Let's have fun together!"

Workshop started! Let's make a Scapular with a Pokeori.

Cohana tools were at the desk so that customers could try them out. AsobiITO Warp Set was used for the warp thread.
